Why not

This girl i know is getting divorced. I am not sure why i felt so surprised and upset. She is not a close girl i know. She is just the friend of a friends ex. She was the first girl we all knew who had sex. we looked at her curiously, some of us more openly,me sneakily, she had seen the one eyed snake! as penise's were reffered to then. Sigh. Damn you Julia Roberts.

Anyway this girl was pretty, from a muslim family less conservative than the rest in it that she could wear what she wanted, go where she pleased but had to get married when they said. This girl seemed the very willfull kinds. we thought she would disagree and go away and get a job and such. she was always there in the cafe place we haunted reading a magazine wearing bright kurtis and trashy jewellery.

The next time i saw her was about two years later. she seemed the same. but we had all accustomed ourselves to the one eyed snake by then. Her claim to fame no longer seemed a big deal. The rest of us did not even remember her. I accidently smiled at her. you know one of those "oh you have caught me staring, now what!" smile.
she smiled back and she had such nice pearly whites. i was jealous. i am jealous of people with perfect teeth.
I wonder if its a genetic thing.

Yesterday the common friend tells me she is getting a divorce. I immedietly look her up on Facebook. The haven of all voyeurism activities. She seems the same. Bright clothes. loud jewellery. Trash talk, same brilliant smile. It made me think how it wasnt even enough that we were all getting old, getting married in droves and then proceeding to have babies that we now had to be divorced as well. You know you are getting old when you'r friends are getting a divorce.

ps: Boi and my attempts at sleeping late and drinking dint quite happen the way we thought. we had a couple of drinks, dinner and then i wore my socks and we settled on the couch and talked and watched t.v and slept at 11. You know what, it was fun and i dont think any more attempts at activities mentioned in last post will probably be undertaken again.

I quote, cause I often quote and I quote -

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, your body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming, "Woo hoo! What a ride!"

Here's to weddings, divorces, drunken pub crawls and babies. For isn't it all the same thing. ;)
